Helen C. Nusbaum, 81,
Topeka, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at a Topeka nursing home.
Mrs. Nusbaum had worked at Washburn Rural High School and retired as a
Title I reading aide at Our Lady of Guadalupe Elementary School.
She was born Feb. 4, 1921, in Denver, the daughter of Truman and Goldie
Stratton Marn. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1938.
Mrs. Nusbaum was a life member of Topeka Reformed Presbyterian Church.
She was a volunteer Cub Scout den mother and a volunteer for the Colmery-O'Neil
VA Medical Center. She also volunteered at the Topeka and Shawnee County
Public Library. She was past president of the women's auxiliary to Philip
Billard Post No. 1650 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was active in
Washburn University Walkers.
She married Ned A. Nusbaum on Aug. 3, 1940, in Atchison. He survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Ned A. Nusbaum Jr., Topeka, Paul W.
Nusbaum, Platte City, Mo., and Mark Nusbaum, Lubbock, Texas; a daughter,
Beverly Nusbaum Johnson, San Rafael, Calif.; two brothers, Wilbur Marn,
Tecumseh, and Charles Marn, Marshall, Mo.; a sister, Sara Custer, Topeka;
and 11 grandchildren.
Services were held at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel.
Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery.
